Stormwater

Fraser Thomas Water stormwater services include Integrated catchment management planning.

Our expertise also covers low impact, appropriate technology, stormwater solutions, Water sensitive design, Stormwater reticulation, treatment and disposal, Watercourse infrastructure assessment surveys, Flood assessments and modelling.

Flood Reports

If you wish to develop your property Council may require you to undertake a flood assessment.

Fraser Thomas can produce a flood report if your property is located within a flood hazard areas, or you would like to assess the risk of flooding to existing buildings on your property for your own peace of mind.

We have undertaken numerous flood assessments for private properties for these reasons. These assessments range from relatively simple projects (e.g. site inspection, runoff calculations and short letter report) to more sophisticated work (e.g. catchment management plan review, flood modelling), depending on the nature of the flood hazard.

As part of rolling out the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan (notified September 2013), Auckland Council has made available online maps (www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz) to identify areas prone to flooding within the Auckland Region.

On these maps you can see whether your property is affected by overland flowpaths or flooding. Many of these maps are based on a rapid flood hazard assessment approach and are generally conservative in nature.

Wastewater

Fraser Thomas services for on-site wastewater system design, consenting and certification including cost effective upgrades of existing wastewater systems – you may not need a new system!

We also do sewage feasibility studies, wastewater treatment and land disposal, wastewater reticulation, pumping systems, network modelling and decentralised sewerage.

  • We have extensive experience in water supply and treatment in New Zealand, the Pacific and Asia.
  • We have specialist skills in stormwater, ranging from the application of low impact design principles to individual sites, flood reports, to large scale catchment management plans.
  • We are nationally and internationally recognised for our solid waste management work, including landfill leachate and stormwater management in New Zealand, and solid waste management planning overseas.
  • We have extensive contaminated land experience, including preliminary and detailed site investigations, remediation and validation.
  • Industrial and trade process (ITP) consenting for high risk sites and environmental management of moderate risk sites.
  • Asset Management.

In all these areas, we can lead you through the resource consenting process, working through concept, preliminary and detailed design, tendering and construction observation to turn your project in reality. This includes specialist RMA/Court work, when required.

Contaminated Land

“Contaminated land” is land that contains hazardous substances (contaminants) in soil at elevated levels that can have significant adverse effects on human health and the environment.

Contaminated land needs to be managed or remediated to protect people and the environment. We have been doing Contaminated Land work for over 10 years and have completed over 200 projects to date including investigating historical contamination of former agricultural and horticultural land, industry, old landfills and sportsfields subject to a wide range of potential contaminants - fill material, asbestos, heavy metals, pesticides/herbicides, hydrocarbons, etc.

Asbestos Management

Fraser Thomas have trained staff to undertake domestic and commercial building surveys for asbestos under the new Asbestos Regulations 2016.

These staff have recently attended a rigorous four day course entitled “BOHS-IP402 Survey and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings”, which enables them to carry out Asbestos Management, Refurbishment and Pre-demolition surveys of buildings and campuses.

We have over 16 years of contaminated site experience, including assessing, remediating and managing asbestos contamination in soils, and over 40 years of building inspections through our structural engineers.

We can help your business to meet your requirements under the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016.
