Resource Management

We actively promote sustainability, whether it be relatively simple measures such as roof water harvesting or waste minimisation, through to projects which represent a shift in thinking, such as the large scale composting of green and kitchen waste.

Resource management

The Resource Management Act (RMA) came into force in New Zealand in 1991 and was a “Game Changer”

It replaced or amended over 50 laws relating to town planning and resource management. It is New Zealand’s main piece of environmental legislation and promotes the sustainable management of the natural and physical resources of land, air and water.

It enables people and communities to provide for their social, economic, and cultural well-being and for their health and safety while providing for future generations; safeguarding the life-supporting capacity of air, water, soil, and ecosystems; and avoiding, remedying or mitigating any adverse effects of activities on the environment.

We come across resource management issues on a daily basis and they are an integral part of most projects. We have substantial in-house expertise in resource management issues and draw on a range of dedicated external planners as required.

Our own experience includes:

  • Preparation of resource consent applications under district and regional plans, including undertaking consultation with stakeholders and the preparation of Assessment of Environmental Effects
  • Assisting local and regional authorities with the processing of consent applications
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Compliance reporting
  • Applications for consent variations and surrender.
