Fraser Thomas has undertaken stream surveys in multiple catchments in the Auckland region using handheld GPS and ArcPad to note stormwater assets, erosion hotspots and bank linings, in collaboration with ecologists.
Catchments assessed over the last three years include:
- Tramway and Upper Harbour Catchments (226 ha)
- Omaru Creek (576ha)
- Redhills (1145ha)
- Hobson Bay (1863ha)
- Whenuapai (903ha)
- Pakuranga Stream (2918ha)
The information gathered and reported back to Council included safety and erosion at outfalls, potential fish barriers, and asset maintenance requirements. We then prepared the associated components of technical reports and watercourse management plans. The latter included assessing and ranking potential stream restoration opportunities, some of which have been adopted for implementation by Council.
