Structural investigations identified seismic weaknesses and earthquake vulnerability.
At its heart is the historic Chapel of Our Glorified Lord and attached St Barnabas Chapel which provide a cherished space for worship, celebration, and reflection.
At the request of the school, a detailed structural investigation and assessment was carried out, which found the buildings to be earthquake-prone, with seismic capacity shortfalls.
We developed a tailored seismic remediation strategy, including new foundations, discreetly retrofitted bracing, and reconstruction of key architectural elements such as internal arches and walls. We carried out thorough construction monitoring during the works, adapting solutions to address the additional issues that were uncovered.
The completed works significantly enhanced the chapel’s seismic resilience while carefully preserving its architectural beauty and heritage value, ensuring this much-loved space remains safe and treasured for generations to come.
The project has been shortlisted for the 2026 Auckland Architecture Awards and is a finalist in the 2026 Property Industry Awards.
