No two days are ever the same with Fraser Thomas as all our work is project based. You will get the opportunity to work on projects of varying scale, across multiple sectors and face a new set of exciting challenges with each project. You will not only be the engineer on the project you will essentially be the project manager; responsible for the entire project through design, consenting, construction observation and certification. Working across the residential, commercial, industrial, community, recreational, health and education sectors; Fraser Thomas are able to complete a large variety of work scopes – see our projects page for more detail and examples.
Fraser Thomas is involved with many international projects supporting socio-economic development in countries including Vietnam, Lao PDR and the Pacific. We encourage all staff to be involved on these projects.
About the Role:
Working as an integral part of our Civil and Environmental teams, we will assist you to gain a broad overall understanding of projects (the big picture) through experience working across projects from start to finish, i.e. design, consent, tendering, construction observation and administration to completion. The role will typically include:
Auckland Civil and Environmental engineering teams comprise of three CPEng with over 30 years’ experience each, a Civil Associate with 26 years’ experience in land development in the Auckland and Canterbury regions, three graduate civil and two graduate environmental engineers, a senior engineering technician and two senior civil/environmental engineers. We also have a licensed surveyor with 35+ years’ experience, and a team of surveyors to support land development projects.

About the Role:
You will be a key member of our Survey team, assisting with the provision of high quality services, primarily in the Auckland region, but may also involve on-site or remote assistance to the Christchurch office with their project work around the Canterbury area. Workload demands will allow you to be involved in a proportionate amount of field to office work; you won’t be stuck at a desk day after day.

The Auckland Environmental team comprises two CPEng engineers, each with over 25 years’ experience in New Zealand and overseas, one of whom is a Certified Environmental Practitioner in Contaminated Land (SQEP), two intermediate and two graduate level engineers, and two intermediate level Environmental Scientists. Our team are supported by the Civil team which includes a Civil Associate with 26 years’ experience, a senior Engineering Technician and two senior Civil engineers. We also have a licensed surveyor with 35+ years’ experience, and a team of 5 surveyors to support land development projects.

We have an effective, proven mentoring programme in place that encourages and supports Engineers to reach their professional development goals. This programme includes the following:
Fraser Thomas runs a ‘First Look’ scholarship programme that provides financial support to university students studying engineering at Auckland University or surveying at Otago University. This includes offering scholars practical work experience during university holidays at one of our offices, with a view to future full-time employment. The ‘First Look’ Scholarship programme has been in place since 2002.
