Manukau SOuthern Hub Project

Auckland Council redevelopment of the West Annex and Manukau Civic Centre, with new extensions and upgraded public spaces.

This Auckland Council project focused on redevelopment of the West Annex building and Manukau Civic Centre (MCC), encompassing a new extension, a full basement refurbishment, and revitalised landscaping, including new impervious areas about the extension to the West Annex building and a pedestrian plaza entrance at 31 Manukau Station Road, Manukau Central.

Fraser Thomas services encompassed a comprehensive civil infrastructure report (wastewater and stormwater, flood risk assessment) to support resource consenting and construction observation and certification, contaminated site investigations comprising Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI) and Detailed Site Investigation (DSI), geotechnical investigation and topographical surveys.

The design included stormwater drainage upgrading to ensure that a depression where critical infrastructure and building access are located would not pond and flood, design of stormwater detention tanks in line with SMAF 2 requirements, and the redirection of existing stormwater lines to accommodate the new drainage at the plaza and accessway. The site’s wastewater system was upgraded with new connections from the building fitout and the installation of a new Oil and Grease Interceptor (OGI).

In addition, our detailed site investigation identified potentially uncertified fill materials and asbestos, prompting us to work closely with contractors to develop and achieve safe and practical remediation methodologies.

This project reflects our multi-disciplinary capability and proactive approach to delivering practical, safe, and future-proofed design outcomes.
