Fraser Thomas was engaged by the Auckland Khmer Buddhist Association, to undertake the Civil, Geotechnical and Structural engineering design, Resource and Building Consent applications for the development of a new Vihara Temple complex at 455 Porchester Road, Takanini.

The construction phase of the project was split into 2 stages; stage one saw the development of the carpark and wastewater connection; stage two consisted of the construction of the Vihara Temple, and toilet block.

From the genesis of the project Fraser Thomas were instrumental in the Temple being granted resource consents including stormwater discharge and land use consents through a hearing process. Critically for the ongoing sustained use and further development of the Temple, Fraser Thomas successfully negotiated a wastewater connection as the site is located outside of the Rural Urban Boundary.

The project included:

  • Environmental Contaminated Site Assessment report
  • Stormwater detention and treatment design – including rain gardens
  • Wastewater management – connection of a private wastewater pumping station to the Watercare network
  • Reinforced concrete block walls and insitu concrete floor to securely display a 4 tonne stone Buddha statue that had been custom made in Cambodia to be housed in the Vihara Temple.

Services Provided:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
